Walk up the highway into the flooded aquarium and swim: every biome holds a boss guarding a nest of eggs. Steal an egg, carry it home past the boss and hatch it on your farm. Creatures earn money: buy upgrades and treadmills, swim deeper into rarer biomes, fill your Codex and play online with others.

Field manual

Move with WASD and look with the mouse. Space swims up and Shift swims down. Press E to steal an egg, use shops and place eggs on your farm, Esc for the menu. On phones use the left thumb to move, the right thumb to look and the ACTION button. Video stands at the spawn give Swim and Luck boosts.

Field notes for multiplayer operations

• The first match against strangers is tuition. You are not there to win it; you are there to learn the map, the pacing and what the regulars do that the tutorial never mentioned.
• Ping and position beat raw aim. A stable connection and a sensible place to stand will win you more rounds than any sensitivity setting ever published.
• Rematch the player who beat you cleanly. Queues are random, but lessons are not — the opponent who outplayed you is a free coach for exactly the skill you are missing.
